Gartner Introduces ITxpo Marketplaces
Friday, 11 October 2002
ITxpo 2002 opened its doors Tuesday to familiar sounds and sights of hundreds of solutions providers proudly displaying their products and services.
But there is something new this year. An added attraction is ITxpo Marketplaces, which are self-contained areas on the show floor designed to aggregate solution providers in a specific market.
Three Marketplaces were launched at this year's ITxpo, built around three hot topics: client relationship management (CRM), enterprise systems management (ESM) and application integration and middleware (AIM). ITxpo Marketplaces are designed to maximize the valuable buyer/seller transactions that characterize a marketplace, and to offer a forum for information sharing and dialogue right on the show floor.
Meanwhile, you could still find the usual wide array of products and services throughout the many aisles and individual booths. And did someone say giveaways?
There is a full selection of T-shirts, the ever-popular pens and assorted office supplies as well as the customary bowls of candy.
That's not all.
You can find hacky sacks (aka footbags) at the Mercator booth, a customized Rubik's Cube at the BMC Software booth, miniature basketballs at the PS'SOFT booth, golf balls and a drawing contest for a Callaway Big Bertha C4 Driver at the Comergent booth, tiny Indy race cars at the Clarkston Consulting booth, Magic Balls (think lighted, bouncy superballs) at the Pegasystems booth, mini CDs at the Versata booth and little bottles of sun screen at the Aventail booth.
"Our products offer security to customers to protect their systems and networks," an Aventail spokesperson said. "So we're giving away sun screen here in sunny, hot Florida to help you protect your skin."
Greg Jones, who works for R.R. Donnelley & Sons in Chicago, enjoyed his stay at Symposium/ITxpo 2002. R.R. Donnelley provides comprehensive, integrated communications solutions that produce, manage and deliver customers' content.
"It's been great to talk to people down here (on the ITxpo floor) and see what they're offering and saying about what I'm looking at, which is portfolio management," Mr. Jones said. "I'm interested in getting more information about international-type software and possibly to see what Gartner has to say about it."
